H.R. No. 291 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The citizens of Irving lost a widely admired police officer with the death of Corey Lee Cooksey of Grapevine, who passed away on December 23, 2012, at the age of 39; and WHEREAS, Officer Cooksey was born in Odessa on October 30, 1973, to Bill and Wanda Kay Cooksey; he graduated from Goldthwaite High School and Lincoln Technical School in 1992 and joined the Irving Police Department in 1999; formerly a member of the Patrol Division, he was serving as a motor officer in the Special Operations Division; he was also an academy instructor and a member of the Honor Guard; Officer Cooksey belonged to the Irving Police Association and attended Fellowship of the Parks in Grapevine; and WHEREAS, Corey Cooksey was the devoted husband of Jo Annette Cooksey and the proud father of a nine-year-old son, Grayson; and WHEREAS, Texans everywhere owe an immeasurable debt of gratitude to the courageous men and women who have chosen law enforcement as their career; through their selfless dedication to the public welfare, they enable their fellow citizens to enjoy the benefits of a peaceful and orderly society, and Officer Corey Cooksey exemplified the highest standards of that profession; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Officer Corey Lee Cooksey and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Jo Annette Cooksey; to his son, Grayson Cooksey; to his parents, Bill and Wanda Cooksey; to his sister-in-law, Mary Katherine Logan, and her husband, Brad; and to his other relatives, friends, and fellow officers; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Officer Corey Lee Cooksey.
