H.R. No. 3000
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Houston Assembly of Delphian Chapters is holding
its 56th Delphian Scholarship Gala on February 8, 2014; and
WHEREAS, An organization of women dedicated to intellectual
enrichment, social enhancement, and philanthropy, the Delphians
has been giving full scholarships to students at the University of
Houston since 1930, when the university was still a junior college;
since then, the group's Scholarship Foundation has awarded more
than $1.5 million to over 500 students; and
WHEREAS, The Delphian Foundation Scholarship is available to
undergraduate women at the University of Houston or the University
of Houston-Downtown, while the Delphian Endowment Scholarship is
for men and women undergraduates at the university's main campus;
there are currently 20 students benefiting from this generous
support; and
WHEREAS, The annual Delphian Scholarship Gala raises funds
for these scholarships, and the 2014 gala promises to be another
inspiring celebration of the talent and dedication of the
scholarship recipients as well as of the generosity of their
benefactors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the 2014 Delphian Scholarship Gala
and extend to the members of the Delphians and their guests sincere
best wishes for a meaningful and memorable event; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Delphians as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
