H.R. No. 302 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Trout Unlimited is a nonprofit organization that works to conserve, protect, and restore North America's trout and salmon fisheries and their watersheds for the benefit of future generations; and WHEREAS, Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited is the world's largest chapter of Trout Unlimited; created in 1964 and boasting 5,000 members in Texas, it is one of the oldest continuously active conservation groups in the state; and WHEREAS, The organization cooperates with the Parks and Wildlife Department by annually stocking rainbow trout in the Guadalupe River; it also contracts with the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority to maintain a minimum in-stream flow from unallocated water in Canyon Lake, which benefits the trout fishery and improves opportunities for water sport; and WHEREAS, In addition to its important preservation efforts, Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited contributes significantly to the economy, as its programs encourage the recreational use of the river; moreover, representatives of the group educate the public by teaching fly-fishing skills and introducing the sport to children in the classroom, promoting "catch and release" as a fundamental tenet of conservation; and WHEREAS, The exceptional work of Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited has fostered the protection and restoration of the Lone Star State's cold water fisheries, helping to ensure that these watersheds will remain a valuable resource in years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby recognize February 6, 2013, as Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited Day and commend the organization for its notable achievements; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
