No. 404 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Chief Doug Kendrick of the Sachse Fire Department retired on January 25, 2013, concluding more than a quarter-century of outstanding service to the community; and WHEREAS, After joining the fire department in 1986 as a volunteer firefighter, Mr. Kendrick was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and then assistant chief; in 1994, he was appointed by the city manager as chief of the department, and five years later, he became the city's first full-time fire chief; and WHEREAS, Chief Kendrick has overseen a number of notable accomplishments during the course of his career; in 2002, the department hired part-time employees and initiated an ambulance service, and in 2004, it celebrated the opening of a fire station; full-time firefighters came on board the next year, and then in 2010, the city added a second fire station; along the way, Chief Kendrick has further contributed to his profession as a firefighting instructor for the Texas A&M University Engineering Extension Service; and WHEREAS, Chief Kendrick was previously employed by the City of Garland, where he worked in the water and the power and light departments from 1974 until his retirement in 1999; a native of Lufkin, he met his future wife, Janet, while attending North Garland High School, and the couple were married in 1975; together they are the parents of two children, Krissy and Jeff, and their family also includes five grandchildren, Alex, Eli, Mallory, Hunter, and Reese; and WHEREAS, The leadership of Chief Doug Kendrick has greatly benefited the residents of Sachse, and he is indeed deserving of recognition as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Doug Kendrick on his retirement as chief of the Sachse Fire Department and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Chief Kendrick as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
