H.R. No. 718
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Since our nation was attacked on September 11, 2001,
courageous fire and rescue workers, military personnel, and law
enforcement officers have dedicated themselves to safeguarding our
families, our liberty, and our future; sadly, some suffer
debilitating injuries and illnesses due to the nature of their
extraordinary service; and
WHEREAS, The Operation American Heroes Foundation provides
financial assistance for nonprofit organizations that deliver
physical and emotional support to first responders, former and
current military personnel, and others who perform vital work in
behalf of the public; founded by Houston businessman and Vietnam
War veteran John Carloss, the foundation raises funds to benefit
such groups as the PTSD Foundation, the Wounded Warrior Project,
Disabled American Veterans, and the USO; and
WHEREAS, Each year in conjunction with the September 11
anniversary, the foundation sponsors American Heroes Week, during
which businesses can donate a percentage of their profits to aid
this worthwhile cause; in addition, the event serves as a means of
encouraging individuals to join the 21 Gun Salute Project by making
an annual pledge; this support is then distributed nationally,
helping to ensure that the recipient organizations can continue
performing their important work; and
WHEREAS, Citizens of our state and nation owe an eternal debt
of gratitude to the brave men and women who defend our country
abroad and our safety at home, and this outstanding event provides
an opportunity to recognize their valiant service and to assist
those heroes who need a helping hand; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby recognize September 8 through 14, 2013, as
American Heroes Week in Texas and express profound gratitude to
these dedicated patriots for their service; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the foundation as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
