The bill would amend Chapter 411 of the Government Code relating to access to criminal history record information by a public defender's office and the office of capital writs and to an exemption for those offices from fees imposed for processing inquiries for that information. The bill would also permit certain local government corporations to obtain certain criminal history information. It is assumed that implementing the provisions of the bill can be absorbed within the existing resources of the affected agencies. It is also assumed that any general revenue savings resulting from implementing the provisions of the bill would not be significant. The bill would take effect on September 1, 2013. Local Government Impact The Texas Association of Counties reported that the bill is projected to provide savings for counties, but that amount of savings could not be determined.
