       AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT   S.B. 111 helps build greater awareness of Texas's unique historic places and encourages the long-term preservation of significant cultural resources that have survived in Texas communities for many generations.   S.B. 111 requires the Texas Historical Commission (THC) to designate certain historical buildings as Texas Historical Use Buildings giving THC another tool in preserving historic sites in communities across Texas.   S.B. 111 amends current law relating to the designation of Texas Historical Use Buildings.   RULEMAKING AUTHORITY   This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.   SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS   SECTION 1. Amends Section 442.006, Government Code, by adding Subsection (d-1), as follows:   (d-1) Requires the Texas Historical Commission (THC) to specially designate as a Texas Historical Use Building that is considered worthy of preservation because of its history, culture, or architecture a building that:   (1) is currently used regularly for a purpose that benefits the community in which the building is located, as determined by THC; and    (2) has been used regularly for the purpose described by Subdivision (1) for at least 150 years.    SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2013.  

 

 

 

AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

S.B. 111 helps build greater awareness of Texas's unique historic places and encourages the long-term preservation of significant cultural resources that have survived in Texas communities for many generations.

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1. Amends Section 442.006, Government Code, by adding Subsection (d-1), as follows:

 

(d-1) Requires the Texas Historical Commission (THC) to specially designate as a Texas Historical Use Building that is considered worthy of preservation because of its history, culture, or architecture a building that:

 

(1) is currently used regularly for a purpose that benefits the community in which the building is located, as determined by THC; and 

 

(2) has been used regularly for the purpose described by Subdivision (1) for at least 150 years. 

 

SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2013.
