The bill would require school districts to provide early mental health intervention and suicide prevention training for teachers, counselors, principals, and other appropriate staff. Districts could satisfy the training requirements using one of the programs on the list developed by the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Training at the elementary campus level would be required only to the extent that sufficient funding and programs were available. School districts would be required to maintain records of staff training. Local Government Impact School districts would experience some administrative costs to provide early mental health intervention and suicide prevention training and to maintain the records of all those who had been trained.
