                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            April 8, 2013      TO: Honorable Dan Patrick, Chair, Senate Committee on Education      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:SB1408 by Patrick (Relating to public school performance ratings that reflect acceptable and unacceptable performance.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would require district and campus performance ratings to be based on an A through F scale, as determined by the commissioner of education. The commissioner would be required to notify districts that had earned a rating of D or F. The bill would require the commissioner to adopt rules that assigned letter grades weighted towards improvements in student achievement measures.  Based on the analysis of the Texas Education Agency, costs to implement the provisions of the bill are not anticipated to be significant.
