                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            May 3, 2013      TO: Honorable Joseph Pickett, Chair, House Committee on Homeland Security & Public Safety      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:SB1708 by Rodríguez (Relating to the acquisition of certain real property in El Paso County for the construction of facilities for the Department of Public Safety of the State of Texas.), As Engrossed    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  This bill would amend the Government Code to authorize the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to enter into a long-term lease of a portion of federal property located in Fort Bliss for the use and benefit of this state.  The bill would stipulate the lease may be for a period or term until the real property is donated to DPS.  It is assumed the costs associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within current resources.  The bill would take effect September 1, 2013.
