                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            March 17, 2013      TO: Honorable Robert Duncan, Chair, Senate Committee On State Affairs      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:SB396 by Hegar (Relating to the provision of state death benefits to certain employees of the Department of Public Safety of the State of Texas.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend Government Code to expand eligibility of state death benefits to survivors of individuals employed by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), whose principal duties directly support a law enforcement function by the state. DPS and the Employees Retirement System anticipate that any costs associated with implementing the bill could be absorbed within existing resources. The bill would take effect on September 1, 2013, and would apply only to deaths that occurred after that date. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
