 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to life support services provided by certain emergency
 medical services personnel.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Sections 773.003(1) and (2), Health and Safety
 Code, are amended to read as follows:
 (1)  "Advanced life support" means [emergency]
 prehospital care that uses invasive and noninvasive medical acts
 that an emergency medical technician-intermediate, an emergency
 medical technician-paramedic, or a licensed paramedic is
 authorized to preform and includes the performance of an advanced
 patient assessment in a situation in which the assessment is
 required to determine whether the medical acts are necessary.
 (2)  "Basic life support" means [emergency]
 prehospital care that uses invasive and noninvasive medical acts
 that an emergency medical technician-basic or an emergency care
 attendant is authorized to perform.
 SECTION 2.  This Act take effect immediately if it receives a
 vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
 Act does not receives the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
