       AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT   This bill requires the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles to issue a license plate to recognize individuals who have received the Defense Superior Service Medal while serving in the United States Department of Defense. There is no current law allowing for a license plate for the recipients of the medal.   As proposed, S.B. 563 amends current law relating to the issuance of specialty license plates to honor recipients of the Defense Superior Service Medal.   RULEMAKING AUTHORITY   This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.   SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS   SECTION 1. Amends Subchapter D, Chapter 504, Transportation Code, by adding Section 504.319, as follows:   Sec. 504.319. DEFENSE SUPERIOR SERVICE MEDAL RECIPIENTS. Requires the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles to issue specialty license plates for recipients of the Defense Superior Service Medal. Requires that license plates issued under this section include the words "Defense Superior Service Medal" at the bottom of each plate.   SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2013.

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1. Amends Subchapter D, Chapter 504, Transportation Code, by adding Section 504.319, as follows:

 

Sec. 504.319. DEFENSE SUPERIOR SERVICE MEDAL RECIPIENTS. Requires the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles to issue specialty license plates for recipients of the Defense Superior Service Medal. Requires that license plates issued under this section include the words "Defense Superior Service Medal" at the bottom of each plate.

 

SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2013.
