A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the registration of token trailers.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 502.255(i), Transportation Code, is
amended to read as follows:
(i) The department shall [may] issue specially designed
nonexpiring license plates for token trailers. The nonexpiring
license plate shall remain displayed on the token trailer until the
trailer is sold or removed from service or the license plate is not
legible. The department shall provide for a person to register a
token trailer under this section on the department's Internet
website.
SECTION 2. The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles shall
adopt rules for the administration of Section 502.255(i),
Transportation Code, as amended by this Act, as soon as practicable
after this Act takes effect. For that purpose, the department may
adopt the rules in the manner provided by law for emergency rules.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
