                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1057
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
 recognizing Father Benito Retortillo, who is returning to Spain
 after many years of service in South Texas; and
 WHEREAS, This beloved Dominican priest is the pastor and
 superior at Saint Francis de Paula in San Diego, Texas, where he
 has served for 27 years; during that time, he has compassionately
 tended to the spiritual and temporal needs of his parishioners;
 and
 WHEREAS, In his 51 years of service to the Catholic Church,
 Father Benito has been all over the world, but more than half of
 his time as a priest has been spent in San Diego, at Saint Francis
 de Paula; and
 WHEREAS, The departure of Father Benito marks a
 bittersweet occasion in South Texas, where he has been embraced
 by the community; he is one of two remaining Dominican priests in
 the Diocese of Corpus Christi, both of whom are returning to
 Spain on July 1, 2013; and
 WHEREAS, Over the years, Father Benito has pursued
 innumerable good works in the community, and his steadfast
 presence has served as a reminder of the power of fellowship and
 the sanctity of one's faith; his absence will be felt deeply by
 his parishioners; they will never forget him, and they wish him a
 safe journey home to Spain; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 83rd Legislature, hereby commend Father Benito Retortillo for
 his 27 years of service in South Texas and extend to him sincere
 best wishes in all his future endeavors; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 Father Benito as an expression of high regard from the Texas
 Senate.
