                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1088
 In Memory
 of
 Ruby Jo Halden
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
 commemorates the life of Ruby Jo Halden, who died May 6, 2013, at
 the age of 84; and
 WHEREAS, Born on October 5, 1928, Ruby Jo grew up in
 Longview; a multitalented musician, she marched in her high
 school band and became proficient in the flute, violin, piano,
 and harmonica; she enrolled at The University of Texas at the age
 of 16 and became one of only two women to obtain a business degree
 in 1948; and
 WHEREAS, In 1950, she married Dr. E. Richard Halden, Jr.;
 they raised their seven children in Fort Worth, and Mrs. Halden
 became active in historic preservation and support of the arts;
 and
 WHEREAS, Her efforts to protect many of the city's
 architectural gems include her creation of the
 Save-the-Scott-Home campaign, which rallied to preserve the
 historic Winfield Scott home, Thistle Hill; she was also a
 founder of the Ryan Place Improvement Association, and she played
 a vital role in the National Register's designation of Elizabeth
 Boulevard as the first residential historic district in Fort
 Worth; and
 WHEREAS, The interests and talents of this civic-minded
 citizen were myriad and far-reaching, and through her support of
 many Fort Worth institutions, she has left a lasting legacy of
 cultural involvement; she also worked full-time managing the
 medical offices of a number of physicians over the course of her
 career; and
 WHEREAS, As a mother and grandmother, and as a friend to
 many, Ruby Jo Halden will be profoundly missed; she was committed
 to leaving the world a better place for future generations, and
 her memory will be forever cherished by all who knew her; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Ruby Jo Halden; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Ruby Jo Halden.
