SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 122 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Brittany Harris, whose selfless efforts have facilitated the purchase of four water wells in Africa; and WHEREAS, Brittany is a fifth grader from Friendswood who exhibits a humanitarian spirit beyond her years; the Windsong Intermediate School student has spent the past three holiday seasons baking cakes, pies, and other items for a fund-raiser she envisioned after learning of clean-water shortages in other countries; and WHEREAS, Her brainchild, "Brittany's Dream," has become an outstanding annual project involving her friends, family, and teachers; the yearly proceeds have twice exceeded the $2,600 necessary to finance a traditional well, which produces 600 gallons daily and provides safe water supplies for an entire village in Africa; and WHEREAS, Originally inspired by a concert and a lesson about Martin Luther King, Jr., this generous fifth grader has devoted her holiday seasons to giving, rather than receiving; the laudable success of her last fund-raiser resulted in the purchase of two wells in one year; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend Brittany Harris for her tireless efforts in securing clean water supplies for struggling communities; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
