SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 130 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to honor the Reverend Douglas E. Brown for his 20 years of service as teacher and pastor at the Great Commission Baptist Church in Fort Worth; and WHEREAS, Since he began his pastorate in 1993, Reverend Brown has increased the Great Commission congregation from 53 followers to more than 5,000; and WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father of two lovely daughters, the reverend has shown an unflagging commitment to his community and has received numerous accolades, including the "2001 Trail Blazer for Outstanding Dedication and Service," awarded by the Southwest Fort Worth Chapter of the National Women of Achievement; he is also a member of the Congressional Youth Leadership Council; and WHEREAS, Born into a family of faith, he is the son of the late Reverend Ulysses Brown, Sr., who was esteemed by his Fort Worth congregation; the younger Reverend Brown was called to the ministry in 1990 at Greater Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church; he is also a former deputy sheriff for the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office, where he worked for more than 11 years; and WHEREAS, Reverend Brown has continually sought to strengthen his calling and shepherd his flock; he studied at Tyndale Theological Seminary and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and his commitment to his calling has enriched innumerable lives; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend the Reverend Douglas E. Brown on his 20-year pastorate at Greater Commission Baptist Church in Fort Worth; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Reverend Brown as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
