SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 163 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the staff, volunteers, and supporters of the Casa Navarro State Historic Site in celebrating the 218th anniversary of the birth of José Antonio Navarro; and WHEREAS, José Antonio Navarro was a prominent figure in the early history of Texas; he served as a representative in Texas legislatures under Mexico, the Republic of Texas, and the State of Texas, and he was a member of the committees that wrote the first two Texas constitutions in 1836 and 1845; he was one of only two native-born Texans to sign the Texas Declaration of Independence; and WHEREAS, In addition to his political work, Mr. Navarro was a successful rancher, merchant, and real estate investor; his restored adobe and limestone home is an exceptional example of early San Antonio domestic architecture and is the centerpiece of the Casa Navarro State Historic Site, which has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places; and WHEREAS, The celebration of José Antonio Navarro's birthday is being hosted by Friends of Casa Navarro on February 23, 2013; it is truly fitting that this seminal figure in Texas history be celebrated for his many contributions to the state's founding and its early success; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby call on Texans to remember the legacy and many accomplishments of José Antonio Navarro and extend to the Friends of Casa Navarro best wishes for a memorable celebration; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this historic occasion.
