SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 200 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Dr. Beverly Kerl Mitchell-Brooks, who is being honored by the League of Women Voters of Dallas at the 17th annual Susan B. Anthony Award Luncheon, which is being held February 15, 2013; and WHEREAS, Dr. Mitchell-Brooks is an adjunct professor in anatomy and physiology at El Centro Community College and president and chief executive officer of the Dallas Urban League; and WHEREAS, She utilized her skills as an environmental specialist to explore and analyze the problems of lead content in West Dallas, and her work has been published in scholarly journals; and WHEREAS, Under her leadership, the Dallas Urban League implemented the city's first Building Bridges of Understanding program and established the Institute for Minority Success; among the many honors and accolades she has received are the Jubilee Award and the Dorothy Farabee Award, and she is an alumna of Leadership Texas; and WHEREAS, Dr. Mitchell-Brooks exemplifies the independence, persistence, determination, and dedication of Susan B. Anthony in obtaining equal rights for all, and she is truly deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Beverly Kerl Mitchell-Brooks on her many achievements and extend congratulations to her on being named the recipient of the Susan B. Anthony Award by the League of Women Voters of Dallas; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
