                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 208
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Dr. Jesús H. Chávez, who is retiring December 31, 2013,
 as superintendent of the Round Rock Independent School District
 after a distinguished 35-year career in education; and
 WHEREAS, Dr. Chávez joined the Round Rock Independent School
 District as superintendent in 2006 after having previously served
 the district as a central office administrator, director, and
 assistant superintendent; and
 WHEREAS, Under his visionary leadership, the district was
 able to pass two important bond packages, and student achievement
 increased, particularly among students from low-income families;
 he played a vital role in creating and fostering partnerships
 within the community and with local businesses; and
 WHEREAS, Dr. Chávez has brought a balanced approach to bear
 in his job as superintendent, helping the district maintain
 strong programs in academics, fine arts, and athletics; he was
 named Superintendent of the Year for Region XIII in 2009 and
 2011; and
 WHEREAS, An exemplary educator, Dr. Chávez is respected
 and admired by students and colleagues alike, and his presence at
 the Round Rock Independent School District will be greatly
 missed; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
 Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Jesús H. Chávez on his
 exceptional service to the people of Round Rock as superintendent
 of the Round Rock Independent School District and extend to him
 best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be
 it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
