SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 217 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Houston Young Lawyers Association on the occasion of its 75th anniversary, which is being celebrated this year; and WHEREAS, The Houston Young Lawyers Association was founded in 1937 as the Houston Junior Bar Association; in 1939, the Houston Bar Association invited the members of the Houston Junior Bar Association to join its organization and form its Junior Bar Section; and WHEREAS, In the 1970s, the Houston Junior Bar became an independent association and changed its name to the Houston Young Lawyers Association; since its founding in 1937, the association has grown from 100 attorneys to nearly 2,000 members; and WHEREAS, Known for its tradition of excellent service to the law profession and to the community, the association has consisted of talented, energetic young lawyers who have gone on to distinguish themselves as attorneys, city officials, and trial, state, and federal judges; and WHEREAS, The association provides opportunities for young lawyers to better know one another, exchange ideas regarding the profession, and share their visions of justice and knowledge of the legal field; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend the Houston Young Lawyers Association on its 75 years of outstanding service to the area's lawyers, the community, and the legal profession; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this association.
