SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 251
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Sam L. Susser, who has been named BorderFest's Border
Texan of the Year for 2013; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Susser is president and chief executive
officer of Susser Holdings Corporation and chairman and chief
executive officer of Susser Petroleum Partners Limited
Partnership; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin,
Mr. Susser worked with Salomon Brothers in New York and Dallas
before founding the Southguard Corporation, now Susser Holdings,
in 1988; the company operates more than 550 Stripes convenience
stores; and
WHEREAS, Susser Petroleum Partners distributes more than
1.4 billion gallons of fuel each year across its network; the
company employs approximately 8,400 workers and brings in $5.7
billion in revenue; and
WHEREAS, A 2009 inductee into the Texas Business Hall of
Fame, Mr. Susser is active in numerous community organizations,
including the advisory boards of the McCombs School of Business
and the Schusterman Center for Judaic Studies at The University
of Texas at Austin; he has also served on the boards of the
Driscoll Foundation, the Texas State Aquarium, and the Corpus
Christi Regional Economic Development Corporation; he is truly
deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby commend Sam L. Susser on his many exemplary
achievements and extend congratulations to him on being named
BorderFest's Border Texan of the Year for 2013; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
