SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 289 In Memory of Sue Smith WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Sue Smith, who died February 19, 2013, at the age of 69; and WHEREAS, Sue Smith was born July 8, 1943; she married Harold Lee Smith in March of 1966, and the couple raised two daughters, Dana and Keesha, who have been a source of much pride and joy; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith was the first chief of staff for Congressman Mickey Leland and played an important role in his success in the United States House of Representatives; she was involved through the years with the Leland Foundation, her daughters and her granddaughter Alex Moorer are all alumnae of the organization, and her daughter Dana serves on its board; and WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced her faith in her daily life, she was a longtime member of Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ; she was also active in numerous community organizations; and WHEREAS, A woman of courage, compassion, and grace, she gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten; and WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Sue Smith; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sue Smith.
