SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 292
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
honoring The Links, Incorporated, as its members convene on
February 25, 2013, for The Links Day at the State Capitol; and
WHEREAS, The Links is one of this country's oldest and most
respected volunteer service organizations for professional women
of color; its members devote a remarkable amount of energy to
community service and are committed to ensuring and enriching the
cultural and economic survival of African American women and
women of African ancestry; and
WHEREAS, Consisting of 12,000 members from more than 270
chapters in the United States and the Bahamas, this dedicated
organization contributes an estimated one-half million volunteer
hours each year; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1946 to encourage professional women
to give their time and energy to a variety of causes, The Links
has grown into a powerful body of influential decision makers and
achievers from the top echelons of the business community; and
WHEREAS, These exemplary individuals serve as role models
not only for women but for all people; they are mothers,
mentors, activists, and civic leaders; their concerted
volunteer efforts have elicited awards from the United Nations
Association of New York and the Leon H. Sullivan Foundation; and
WHEREAS, The programming of The Links has five major
facets: national trends and services, the arts, youth services,
health and human services, and international trends and
services; hailing from all walks of life, the women who make up
this exceptional organization are indeed worthy of recognition
for their many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby welcome the members of The Links,
Incorporated, as they celebrate The Links Day at the State
Capitol and extend to them sincere best wishes in all their
future endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
them as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
