                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 340
 In Memory
 of
 Hilmar G. Moore
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 citizens of Richmond in mourning the loss of Hilmar G. Moore, who
 died December 4, 2012, at the age of 92; and
 WHEREAS, A legendary figure in the City of Richmond, Hilmar
 Moore was an exemplary citizen and public servant who was widely
 admired throughout the community for his integrity, his
 forthrightness, and his willingness to undertake any task; he was
 the mayor of the City of Richmond for 63 years; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Moore was born into a pioneering Texas family,
 and his great-great-grandfather was a signer of the Texas
 Declaration of Independence; and
 WHEREAS, A longtime cattle rancher and World War II
 veteran, Mr. Moore was appointed mayor of Richmond in 1949 to fill
 an unexpired term; he subsequently won 32 consecutive mayoral
 elections, including his most recent election, unopposed, in
 2012; and
 WHEREAS, He was a man of humility who was noted for his
 determination and down-to-earth personality; throughout his
 63-year tenure as mayor, he declined to have a City Hall office or
 desk, and he insisted that any roadwork done on city streets be
 applied last to the street on which he lived; and
 WHEREAS, In recognition of his decades of exceptional
 service to Richmond, residents of the city commissioned a life-size
 bronze statue of him and erected it outside of City Hall; and
 WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and tenacity, Hilmar
 Moore gave unselfishly to others and was highly respected by all
 who knew him; he was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves
 behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
 many friends; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Hilmar G. Moore; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Hilmar G. Moore.
