SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 347 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the residents of Houston's Gulfton community in celebrating the dedication and grand opening of the SER-Niños Charter School's new middle school campus, which is taking place March 2, 2013; and WHEREAS, The SER-Niños Charter School originally opened its doors in 1996; one of the first charter schools in the state, it offers at-risk children a high-quality prekindergarten through eighth grade education built around an innovative dual language curriculum; and WHEREAS, The school was founded on the premise that every child can develop the characteristics and abilities to overcome economic hardship and achieve success; in addition to a rigorous curriculum, the school offers an environment in which good citizenship and social responsibility are integral parts of its programs; and WHEREAS, The importance of a college education is stressed to each student, and there is a strong emphasis on making parental participation an essential part of the process; the school has three times received the Governor's Educator Excellence Award for Marked Achievement with an at-risk population, and the middle school has been rated as exemplary; and WHEREAS, The opening of an expanded middle school campus is a reflection of the school's enduring commitment to preparing its students to face the challenges of today's complex society; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend the students, faculty, and staff of SER-Niños Charter School on their dedication to excellence in education and extend to them best wishes for a memorable dedication and grand opening ceremony for the school's new campus; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
