SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 411
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Freeport Host Lions Club 2013 Fishing Fiesta
Barbecue Cook-off, which is being held July 5 and 6, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Fishing Fiesta is held annually by the Freeport
Host Lions Club over the Fourth of July holiday and has for
several years included a barbecue cook-off sanctioned by the
Texas Gulf Coast BBQ Cookers Association; the event has continued
to grow and has become a major fund-raiser for the club; and
WHEREAS, The money raised from the annual event enables the
Freeport Host Lions Club to provide eye examinations and glasses
for children in Freeport, to support organizations such as
Military Moms from Brazoria County and the Brazosport High School
Orchestra, and to fund scholarships for Brazosport High School
seniors; and
WHEREAS, In addition to the barbecue cook-off, Fishing
Fiesta offers many fun-filled activities for the whole family to
enjoy, including washer and horseshoe tournaments, a children's
hamburger cook-off, and a queen contest; and
WHEREAS, Texans are noted for their love of barbecue, and
the Freeport Host Lions Club Fishing Fiesta Barbecue Cook-off is
certain to provide superior cuisine to satisfy the most
discriminating of palates; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby recognize the 2013 Fishing Fiesta Barbecue
Cook-off as a Texas State Barbecue Championship competition and
extend to the Freeport Host Lions Club best wishes for a
successful fund-raising event; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the organizers of the Freeport Host Lions Club Fishing Fiesta
Barbecue Cook-off as an expression of esteem from the Texas
Senate.
