SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 561 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to honor Margaret and Gerald D. "Griff" Griffith on the occasion of their 66th wedding anniversary, on February 22, 2013; and WHEREAS, The story of this remarkable couple is a tribute to the abiding nature of true love; Margaret and Gerald were high school sweethearts, but fate intervened when he was drafted in 1943; the pair never lost heart, however; they married on February 22, 1947, and together they raised three children; and WHEREAS, Griff became an accomplished airman and dedicated 30 years of his life to the United States air force; he served multiple tours of duty and flew missions in World War II, the Berlin Airlift, Korea, and Vietnam; Margaret was ideally suited to the military lifestyle; she appreciated travel and foreign cultures, and she graciously met the challenges of regular relocation; and WHEREAS, After Griff retired from the air force, the couple moved to Mansfield, Texas, and Griff taught high school in Grand Prairie for the next 20 years; after a second retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Griffith revived their passion for adventure, and in recent years, they have enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe; and WHEREAS, This dedicated couple has shared and continues to share a rich life and an enduring love; their commitment to each other and to their family is inspiring and deserves acknowledgement and praise; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby congratulate Gerald D. "Griff" and Margaret Griffith on the occasion of their 66th anniversary; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in their honor and as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
