SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 603 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Carlos Walker and Deterrius Boose, whose determination and belief in the value of education have turned around a young man's life and put him on the path to success; and WHEREAS, Carlos Walker is the principal at Dunbar High School in Fort Worth, where Deterrius Boose is a 19-year-old senior; and WHEREAS, Deterrius became a student at Dunbar High School after having dropped out of school and being involved in gang activities in Dallas; recognizing the need to turn his life around after the death of his grandmother, he approached Mr. Walker and asked for the chance to enroll in school; and WHEREAS, Mr. Walker gave Deterrius permission to attend despite reservations about his ability to follow through on this important undertaking; Deterrius rewarded Mr. Walker for the faith he showed in him by becoming an excellent student and qualifying for early graduation; and WHEREAS, Mr. Walker has been honored by the Texas Caucus of Black School Board Members as Administrator of the Year, and Deterrius has been accepted at Navarro College, where he will study kinesiology; their impressive accomplishments are a reflection of their foresight, determination, and commitment to excellence; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend Carlos Walker and Deterrius Boose for their exemplary achievements and extend to them best wishes for continued success in all their endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
