SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 635 In Memory of Charles Cleveland Curry WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Charles Cleveland Curry, who died March 23, 2013, at the age of 93; and WHEREAS, Charlie Curry was much admired in his community for his longtime commitment to the Colleyville Area Chamber of Commerce; he remained active with the chamber and was a member of the board until 2009; he understood the power of networking and the importance of volunteerism, and his talent for bringing together diverse groups of people and his hard work on behalf of the chamber earned him the nickname of "Mr. Colleyville"; and WHEREAS, Born on June 17, 1919, in El Dorado, Arkansas, Charlie Curry would, like many of his generation, serve his country in World War II; from 1942 through 1945, he served as a supply technician in the United States Army Air Forces during its campaigns throughout Asia; after the war, Mr. Curry returned home to New Mexico and married his wife, Eula Mae; he initially worked with the family business in Carlsbad and later joined Southwest Potash Mines, where he served for 34 years until retiring from the position of plant controller; and WHEREAS, After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Colleyville in 1983 to be closer to their son and his family; within a year, Mr. Curry had become integral to the Colleyville community, and particularly to its chamber of commerce; he used his financial expertise to help the chamber and many Colleyville residents, and he was named Citizen of the Year in 1997 and Volunteer of the Year in 2007; and WHEREAS, This remarkable gentleman was revered for his engaging personality, his sharp mind, and his love of helping others, and he will long be remembered by all who knew him for his generosity and compassion; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Charles Cleveland Curry; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charlie Curry.
