SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 642 In Memory of Wade Wilson WHEREAS, The family and friends of United States Marine Corps Sergeant Wade Wilson of Leona suffered an immeasurable loss with his death on May 11, 2012, at the age of 22; and WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, out of Camp Pendleton, California, Sergeant Wilson was killed in action in Helmand Province, Afghanistan; and WHEREAS, Wade Daniel Wilson was born in Webster on August 4, 1989, to Cindy Lee and Mitchell Boyd Wilson; he was active in athletics at Centerville High School, where he participated in football and in track and field; after graduating in 2007, he answered his nation's call to duty and enlisted in the marines at the age of 17; trained as an anti-tank missileman, he was serving his second tour of duty in Afghanistan at the time of his death; Sergeant Wilson lost his life when he charged a more heavily armed insurgent in order to protect his comrades; his actions resulted in saving the lives of at least two fellow marines, and he was posthumously awarded the Silver Star, the nation's third-highest military decoration for valor; and WHEREAS, This courageous, exuberant young man took the challenges of his work in stride; he was sustained in his difficult mission by his strong religious faith and by his deep commitment to the task in which he was engaged; and WHEREAS, Through his unwavering dedication to duty and honor, Wade Wilson embodied the highest ideals of the armed forces of the United States, and memories of his love and friendship will forever be cherished by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Wade Daniel Wilson and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his mother and stepfather, Cindy Lee and Ward Easterling; to his father and stepmother, Mitchell Boyd and Tammy Wilson; to his brothers, Chad Mitchell Wilson and his wife, Brittney, Alex Ray Wilson and his wife, Kandace, and Curtis Lee Wilson; to his sister, Layne Elise Wilson; to his stepsisters, Teri Miro and her husband, Ben, Amy Kelley and her fiance, Mark Smith, and Lisa Brooks and her husband, Deon; to his grandparents, George and Dixie Lowry and Curtis and Bonnie Easterling; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sergeant Wade Wilson.
