SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 643 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Inman Christian Center on the occasion of its 100th anniversary, which is being celebrated April 13, 2013; and WHEREAS, Inman Christian Center traces its roots to an organization known as the Mexican Institute of San Antonio that was founded by Disciples missionary Dr. Samuel Guy Inman, local pastor Dr. Hugh McLellan, and the Christian Women's Board of Missions; the institute sought to meet community needs by teaching English reading and writing to help area residents obtain jobs and by providing child care services, a medical clinic, and Bible classes; and WHEREAS, The institute later changed its name to the Mexican Christian Institute to better reflect its missionary efforts and in 1961 was renamed Inman Christian Center in honor of its founder; and WHEREAS, Through the years, Inman Christian Center has ministered faithfully to the temporal and spiritual needs of countless people; it has continued to provide low-income residents with a variety of support and educational services, including child care, senior housing, a food pantry, and summer recreation programs; and WHEREAS, The celebration of its 100th anniversary is an expression of the center's enduring commitment to providing enlightenment and hope to the people it serves; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby extend best wishes for a memorable 100th anniversary celebration to all those associated with Inman Christian Center; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the center as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
