                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 664
 In Memory
 of
 Helen Grace Burkhart Prehn
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas pays tribute to
 the life of Helen Grace Burkhart Prehn, who died in Austin on
 March 28, 2013, at the age of 86; and
 WHEREAS, Born in 1926 in Beaumont, Helen graduated from
 Beaumont High School and earned her bachelor of arts degree in
 history and Spanish from Louisiana State University; and
 WHEREAS, This gracious Texas lady spent much of her life
 working for medical centers and volunteering her service on their
 boards, but her abiding passion remained her family, and she
 seized opportunities to celebrate the benchmark occasions in the
 lives of her children and grandchildren; and
 WHEREAS, Over the years, she lived in several Texas cities
 before moving to Austin in 1982; in Houston, she was employed by
 Baylor Medical Center; in San Antonio, she worked for The
 University of Texas Health Science Center, and in Dallas, she
 worked for The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center; and
 WHEREAS, In Austin, Helen was employed in the office of the
 Vice-Chancellor for Health Affairs of The University of Texas
 System; in addition, she served as a volunteer on the boards of
 Saint David's Medical Center, Saint David's Foundation, and
 People's Community Clinic; she also tutored young students at
 Zavala Elementary School; and
 WHEREAS, This exemplary lady and loving matriarch led a
 life of generosity, compassion, and family devotion; she touched
 the lives of many, and she leaves behind memories that will long
 be cherished by her daughters, Emily and Kathryn, her
 grandchildren, and her many friends; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
 bereaved family of Helen Grace Burkhart Prehn; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
 so in memory of Helen Prehn.
