SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 688 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the 60th anniversary of the Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi; and WHEREAS, The hospital's staff, board members, and many supporters recently celebrated the facility's 60th anniversary with the dedication of a historical marker in honor of Clara Driscoll and the announcement of a $12 million renovation; and WHEREAS, Driscoll Children's Hospital is the seventh-largest employer in Corpus Christi, and its emergency department tends to the needs of 35,000 children each year; the hospital's renovation will include the addition of two trauma rooms, two triage areas, an expanded lobby, and 20 private examination rooms; and WHEREAS, A facility offering exemplary care for South Texas children over the past six decades, the hospital was established by a provision in the estate of Clara Driscoll, a Texas cattlewoman and philanthropist who is also revered for her purchase and preservation of the Alamo; and WHEREAS, Since its opening in February of 1953, the hospital has expanded significantly; it opened with 25 beds available and now has 189 beds, and its reach has broadened from serving five Coastal Bend counties to 31 counties in South Texas; countless children have benefited from the compassion and first-rate care they have received at the facility, and it is indeed fitting that the hospital be honored and celebrated for its invaluable service; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby observe the 60th anniversary of the Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi and celebrate the designation of a Texas Historical Marker in honor of the hospital's founder, Clara Driscoll; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this special occasion.
