                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 767
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great
 pleasure in recognizing Maye Frances Hainsworth-Hutson, who is
 celebrating her 100th birthday on May 8, 2013; and
 WHEREAS, Maye was born the year before World War I began,
 and as a centenarian, she has witnessed the passing of many a
 milestone; yet she has always been a person ahead of her time:  an
 African American woman who obtained a college degree at a time
 when few women did so; she is an accomplished musician who toured
 the United States in her 20s, and she is a dedicated public
 servant who joined the American workforce well before the onset
 of World War II; and
 WHEREAS, Over the years, Maye Hutson has lived a rich and
 accomplished life; as a public school music teacher, she has
 expanded the horizons of countless young students; as a mentor to
 numerous African American women, she has illuminated the path to
 success; and as a civil servant, she has applied her energy and
 skills in her work with the Harris County Emergency Relief
 Department and the United States Naval Supply Depot in Oakland,
 California; and
 WHEREAS, A life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
 Incorporated, she has been an active member of Xi Alpha Omega
 Chapter since 1981; and
 WHEREAS, Throughout her many triumphs and achievements,
 Mrs. Hutson has been a font of wisdom and encouragement for all
 those who have known her, and she remains an exemplary role model
 for her many students and protégés; it is fitting, then, that the
 long and eventful life of this centenarian be honored; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 83rd Legislature, hereby commend Maye Frances Hainsworth-Hutson on
 the auspicious occasion of her 100th birthday and extend to her
 sincere best wishes for a joyous celebration; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
