SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 884
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
recognizing the Rio Grande Valley Vipers for their recent triumph
in the National Basketball Association Development League
championships; and
WHEREAS, The victory marks the second championship title
for the Vipers in four years; in game two of the 2013 finals, the
Rio Grande Valley team defeated the Santa Cruz Warriors by a
score of 102-91; and
WHEREAS, Under the skilled leadership of head coach Nick
Nurse, this impressive young team has demonstrated great talent
and perseverance over the course of the season; and
WHEREAS, The Vipers have developed a loyal following and a
fierce reputation as a team that can adapt its game strategy to
the demands of the moment; in the recent play-offs, the normally
offensive-minded Vipers played strong defense and swept the
Warriors in a two-game matchup; and
WHEREAS, These talented athletes and their coaches have
brought high-quality professional basketball to the Rio Grande
Valley, and their unrelenting drive and exceptional skills have
again resulted in a national championship for the franchise; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby commend the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on their
victory in the 2013 National Basketball Association Development
League championships; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
