H.R. No. 115 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, La Academia de Estrellas Charter School in Dallas is breaking ground for a new campus at a ceremony on June 27, 2013; and WHEREAS, Founded by Lorraine Mantei and Richard Tuck, LAE Charter School is an open-enrollment institution that serves the economically disadvantaged students of Oak Cliff by emphasizing real-world experiences through community service projects, field trips, and inquiry-based education; and WHEREAS, Since the school opened its doors in 2006, enrollment has increased from 175 kindergarten to third-grade students to nearly 1,000 preschool to middle school students, and in the 2013-2014 academic year, LAE will be adding the eighth grade; the school's dedicated staff of 103 includes 72 teachers and instructional assistants; and WHEREAS, The school is currently divided into three separate campuses, and its new, 82,000-square-foot, two-story facility on South Walton Walker Boulevard will consolidate all kindergarten through middle school classes in one new building, beginning with the 2014-2015 school year; the school will also include a gymnasium and an inner courtyard; and WHEREAS, For seven years, this exemplary educational institution has provided young Texans with a firm educational foundation for the challenges and opportunities of the future, and its new, stand-alone facility promises to help the school achieve even more for the community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the groundbreaking ceremony for the new La Academia de Estrellas Charter School and extend to the school's staff, teachers, and students sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
