 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The 90th annual Tri-State Fair and Rodeo in Amarillo
 is taking place from September 13 to 21, 2013; and
 WHEREAS, Since Amarillo's founding more than 125 years ago,
 the city has been the definitive Western cowtown—both a thriving
 market and a busy processing and distribution center for the cattle
 industry; the town is home to the Texas Cattle Feeders Association
 and the American Quarter Horse Association, which work to preserve
 the prosperity and culture of the rancher's way of life; and
 WHEREAS, The region's Western heritage has been celebrated
 every year since 1923 at the Tri-State Fair and Rodeo; operated by
 the Amarillo Tri-State Exposition, it is the largest annual event
 in the Texas Panhandle, drawing more than 130,000 people, and it
 brings $5 million to the local economy; and
 WHEREAS, The fair and rodeo's nine days of events include one
 of the top five medium-sized rodeos in the nation, as rated by the
 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, and the exposition's
 scholarships and educational programs benefit 5,000 local students
 each year; and
 WHEREAS, More than 600 volunteers devote over 15,000 hours to
 putting on the fair and rodeo, making it a true community effort,
 and since 2000 its facility, the Amarillo National Center, has won
 acclaim as one of the nation's premier dirt-floor venues for rodeos
 and equestrian events; and
 WHEREAS, The values and ideals of the American West continue
 to animate the lives of those who make their home there, and for the
 past nine decades the Tri-State Fair and Rodeo has provided a
 showcase for the skills, tenacity, and daring through which they
 and their ancestors have left their stamp on that legendary region;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the 90th annual
 Tri-State Fair and Rodeo in Amarillo and extend to the fair's staff,
 participants, and visitors sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and
 memorable event; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the Amarillo Tri-State Exposition as an expression of
 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
