No. 161 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Meghan MacKenzie Brooks has graduated as salutatorian of the Stratford High School Class of 2013; and WHEREAS, Earning the title of salutatorian requires not only intellect and aptitude, but also dedication to the highest academic standards; to attain this coveted distinction, Ms. Brooks demonstrated a thorough understanding of a wide range of subjects, and she finished her career with a grade point average of 98.98; and WHEREAS, Over the course of the past four years, Ms. Brooks has participated in a wide variety of extracurricular activities and organizations; a member of the National Honor Society, she has also taken part in numerous UIL academic contests, advancing to regionals in accounting and competing, as well, in mathematics and science; and WHEREAS, In addition to her academic pursuits, Ms. Brooks played in the school band, ran track and cross-country, captained the Lady Elk basketball team her junior and senior years, and captained the cheer squad her senior year as well; selected to the 2012-2013 Girls Basketball Elite Academic All-State Team by the Texas High School Coaches Association, she has also been named an All-American cheerleader and been crowned Lions Club Queen; she plans to continue her education at Texas Tech University; and WHEREAS, The daughter of proud parents Lance and Kelly Brooks, Meghan MacKenzie Brooks has earned the respect and admiration of teachers and classmates alike, and her exceptional scholastic ability, hard work, and commitment to excellence have opened the way to limitless opportunities for this outstanding young Texan; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Meghan MacKenzie Brooks, salutatorian of the Stratford High School Class of 2013, and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success as she begins the next exciting chapter of her life; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Brooks as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
