83S10084 BPG-D By: Klick H.R. No. 4 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The friends and family of U.S. Army Specialist Michael C. Roberts of Watauga suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of this exemplary soldier on August 27, 2011, at the age of 23; and WHEREAS, Specialist Roberts was killed in Afghanistan while bravely serving his country as a member of the 561st Military Police Company, 716th Military Police Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade; over the course of his distinguished military career, this courageous young Texan also served in Iraq, and he earned a number of honors, including the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and NATO medal; and WHEREAS, Born on November 24, 1987, to Dave and Kathy Roberts, Michael Roberts graduated from Richland High School, where he was a varsity wrestler and member of the marching and concert bands; he went on to attend the University of North Texas before joining the army in 2007; and WHEREAS, Michael Roberts was known for his kindness and his warm smile; in addition to spending time with his brothers, Patrick and Brian, he enjoyed fishing and camping; and WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and women whose love for their country inspires them to take up military service, yet the tragic death of this young Texan is a sobering reminder of the cost of war; Specialist Roberts was a brave and dedicated soldier, and his fellow citizens owe him an eternal debt of gratitude for his valor and sacrifice; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Specialist Michael C. Roberts and extend sincere sympathy to his parents, David and Kathy Roberts; to his brothers, Patrick Roberts and his wife, Brittany, and Brian Roberts; to his "nephew dog," Cooper Roberts; to his grandmothers, Mary Jane Ryan and Martha Roberts; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army Specialist Michael C. Roberts.
