No. 60 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Words cannot express the sorrow felt at the passing of firefighter Anne McCormick Sullivan of the Houston Fire Department on May 31, 2013, at the age of 24; and WHEREAS, Ms. Sullivan and three other Houston firefighters lost their lives in the line of duty while they were searching a burning restaurant and motel for people who might be trapped; thirteen other members of the department were injured in what was the deadliest fire in the history of the Houston Fire Department; and WHEREAS, Anne Sullivan was born in Houston on December 4, 1988, to Jack and Mary Moore Sullivan; she was a star soccer player and cross-country runner at Dulles High School, where she was recognized as athlete of the year; and WHEREAS, After her graduation, Ms. Sullivan decided to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a firefighter, and she enrolled in the Wharton County Junior College Fire Academy; she graduated from the Houston Fire Department Academy in April 2013 and joined the department as a probationary firefighter; and WHEREAS, A loving daughter, sister, and granddaughter, Anne Sullivan was adored by her family for her passion, her fierce loyalty, and her tenacity, and she was respected by her fellow firefighters for her courage and her commitment to the job; she enriched the lives of all who shared in her journey, and those who treasured this extraordinary young woman will forever hold her close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Anne McCormick Sullivan and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her parents, Mary Moore Sullivan and Jack Sullivan; to her brothers, William and Thomas Sullivan; to her sister, Kate Sullivan; to her grandmother, Shirley Moore Perry; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Anne McCormick Sullivan.
