                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 101
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize the Cowboy Q'ing Against Crime Cook-off as a Texas
 State Barbecue Championship competition; and
 WHEREAS, The cook-off is part of the Viva McAllen Streets
 National Night Out Kick Off presented by McAllen Crime Stoppers;
 this outstanding community event also includes the Pedal Against
 Crime cycling ride, the Run for Justice 10-kilometer costume run
 and walk, a trail ride along the canal banks, and the Viva McAllen
 Streets community day on August 3, 2013; and
 WHEREAS, The McAllen Crime Stoppers and La Joya
 Independent School District Campus Crime Stoppers are hosting
 the Cowboy Q'ing Against Crime Cook-off, which is sanctioned by
 the International Barbeque Cookers Association and attracts some
 of the best cook-off chefs in South Texas; the competition is
 being held August 2 and 3, 2013; and
 WHEREAS, The Pedal Against Crime cycling ride is organized
 in conjunction with the city's police department cycling team and
 features rural rides of 25, 40, and 60 miles, and the Run for
 Justice invites the city's running and walking community to don
 costumes and traverse some of McAllen's safe and friendly
 neighborhoods; and
 WHEREAS, Viva McAllen Streets is being presented in
 conjunction with the City of McAllen's Transit and Traffic
 Departments; a free public event, it promotes alternative means
 of mobility by temporarily closing down major city streets,
 turning them into a safe place for families to run, ride
 bicycles, rollerblade, take exercise classes, and play; and
 WHEREAS, The entire festival will promote a healthy
 lifestyle while offering some of the best barbecue in South
 Texas; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the sponsors and
 organizers of Viva McAllen Streets and the Cowboy Q'ing Against
 Crime Cook-off and extend to them best wishes for a successful
 and memorable event; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
 honor of this special occasion.
