SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 131 In Memory of Piers Lawrence Depeyster Chance WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Piers Lawrence Depeyster Chance, who died June 4, 2013, at the age of 73; and WHEREAS, Piers Chance was born August 26, 1939, in Epsom, England; he came to this country during World War II and grew up in Asheville, North Carolina, where he graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Asheville; he served the nation with distinction with the United States Marine Corps; and WHEREAS, He married Carolyn Ann Young in 1965, and the couple began their new life together in Texas; they raised a daughter, Chelsea Starr, and they were blessed with three grandchildren, Joel, Ashley, and Austin; and WHEREAS, Mr. Chance enjoyed a long and productive career in the commercial real estate industry as a broker and certified property manager; he worked with a wide variety of companies and on a number of high-profile projects, including Equitable Life Assurance and One Main Place, Bass Brothers Enterprises and Sundance Square, and Lincoln Property Company and the Bank of America Corporate Center; and WHEREAS, He was active in such community organizations as the Lions Club and served on the Colleyville City Council and the Colleyville Zoning and Planning Board; he was a faithful member of Saint Vincent's Cathedral, where he served as a vestry member, lay reader, and school board member; and WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he gave unselfishly to others, and he was deeply cherished and will long be remembered for his winning smile, the happiness he brought to others, and the enthusiasm with which he lived each day to the fullest; and WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Piers Lawrence Depeyster Chance; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Piers Chance.
