SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 33
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Deputy Victor Genaro Leos of the Cameron County
Sheriff's Office, who has been named the recipient of a 2012
State of Texas Law Enforcement Achievement Award for Public
Service by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer
Standards and Education; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the Texas Commission on Law
Enforcement Officer Standards and Education honors men and women
who have made a difference in their communities by exceeding
normal expectations of job performance through acts of
professional achievement, public service, or valor; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Leos has engaged in a wide variety of
community projects, both as a volunteer and as an organizer;
among these efforts are Shop with a Cop, which provides clothing
necessities for children in need, and the Back to School Backpack
Giveaway, Storybook Day, and Stranger Danger programs; and
WHEREAS, He created the Dough for Donuts scholarship
program, which offers funds for students seeking to earn a
criminal justice degree or to attend a police academy; he also
worked on the documentary film Heroes Behind the Badge, which was
presented at the 2012 Combined Law Enforcement Associations of
Texas convention; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary peace officer, Deputy Leos is
respected and admired by colleagues and citizens alike, and he is
truly deserving of recognition for his dedication and his
outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Deputy Victor
Genaro Leos on his commitment to making a difference in his
community and extend congratulations to him on being named the
recipient of a 2012 State of Texas Law Enforcement Achievement
Award for Public Service; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
