 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Citizens of Irving are coming together to take part
 in the annual National Night Out on October 1, 2013; and
 WHEREAS, Introduced in 1984, National Night Out is sponsored
 by the National Association of Town Watch, a nonprofit organization
 dedicated to the development and promotion of crime prevention
 programs; more than 37 million people in 15,000 communities across
 the United States and Canada now participate in the event; and
 WHEREAS, Commemorated through neighborhood gatherings,
 cookouts, parades, flashlight walks, and other activities, the
 National Night Out helps to build community cohesiveness,
 strengthen relations between residents and local police, and
 increase awareness of anticrime strategies, while sending a message
 of solidarity to would-be criminals; and
 WHEREAS, The importance of crime prevention cannot be
 overstated, and by taking part in National Night Out observances,
 the residents of Irving are affirming their commitment to making
 their community stronger and safer; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 2013
 National Night Out in Irving and extend to its participants and
 sponsors sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable event;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the city of Irving as an expression of high regard by
 the Texas House of Representatives.
