 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, In 2013, the Paso del Norte Children's Development
 Center is celebrating 65 years of supporting and empowering
 families in El Paso; and
 WHEREAS, Paso del Norte was chartered in 1948 by a group of
 hospital volunteers motivated by the desire to help children with
 disabilities; initially housed in the University Medical Center of
 El Paso, it has since expanded and adopted a wider scope of services
 in an effort to give children with special health care needs the
 best chance to achieve their full potential; and
 WHEREAS, Today, the center works to fulfill its mission
 through three major initiatives; its Early Childhood Intervention
 Program offers an array of services for infants and toddlers with
 developmental disabilities, its El Papalote Inclusive Child
 Development Center is the only licensed child-care provider in the
 area that specializes in children with disabilities, and its
 Community Resource Center educates and trains parents,
 professionals, and the general public on issues related to children
 with disabilities; in 2011, these three departments' combined
 number of clients totaled nearly 8,200; and
 WHEREAS, Greatly valued by local citizens, Paso del Norte has
 been voted the top local nonprofit in the What's Up Best of the Best
 awards every year since 2008; the center also garnered the 2009
 Cornerstone Award from the Nonprofit Enterprise Center and was
 recognized by the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in 2007; and
 WHEREAS, The Paso del Norte Children's Development Center has
 made a meaningful difference in the lives of countless area
 children and their loved ones, and it is most deserving of special
 recognition and praise; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate the Paso del
 Norte Children's Development Center on its 65th anniversary and
 extend to all those associated with the center sincere best wishes
 for continued success with their important work; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Paso del Norte as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
