H.R. No. 86
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Adrian Martinez of the Canutillo Select junior
varsity basketball team in El Paso became the hero of his squad's
game against the Ellicott Hawks at the Mid America Youth Basketball
tournament held in Pueblo, Colorado, from June 28 through 30, 2013;
and
WHEREAS, With under three minutes left in the game, the coach
called on Mr. Martinez; he quickly stole the ball from an opposing
player and drove the length of the court to sink a layup; next, he
hit a three-point shot, and by the time the game ended, he had
scored a total of nine points; the difficult three-pointer
particularly thrilled the crowd and the other athletes, many of
whom were jumping up and down in excitement; and
WHEREAS, This dedicated 16-year-old player practices his
skills on a daily basis; he works especially hard on his outside
shot, and his perseverance clearly paid off at a crucial moment; in
addition to playing with the Select junior varsity squad, he serves
as a manager for the Canutillo High School varsity team; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez is the son of Lily Davila and her
husband, Luis, and his proud parents support and encourage him in
all his endeavors; the oldest of three children, he also enjoys the
love and affection of his brother, Johnny Martinez, and his sister,
Nicky Davila; and
WHEREAS, Through his steadfast commitment to his team and his
determination to contribute to its success, Adrian Martinez has won
the admiration of many people, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor
this remarkable young Texan for his achievements; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Adrian
Martinez on his performance with the Canutillo Select junior
varsity team during the Mid America Youth Basketball tournament in
Pueblo, Colorado, and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Martinez as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
