SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 28 In Memory of William Riley Boyd, Jr. WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Cushing and Center in mourning the loss of William Riley Boyd, Jr., who died June 2, 2013, at the age of 96; and WHEREAS, Bill Boyd was born on February 24, 1917, in Houston, Mississippi; he graduated from Houston High School in 1934 and served an apprenticeship in the construction of roads and highways; on June 28, 1942, he married the love of his life, Tim Barton; and WHEREAS, In 1945, he established W. R. Boyd, Incorporated, which quickly became a prime contractor with the Texas Highway Department; after 24 years as head of his highly successful company, Bill Boyd was elected president of the Texas Highway-Heavy Branch of the Associated General Contractors; and WHEREAS, He served on a number of state committees and was president of the Texas Good Roads Transportation Association and the Texas Asphalt Paving Association; he was a well-known community leader, a Shriner, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Center; and WHEREAS, Mr. Boyd had many interests; he lived life to the fullest, and he was devoted to his wife of 70 years, his daughter, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, He was an exemplary gentleman who was beloved by many, and he will long be remembered with affection and appreciation by all who shared in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of William Riley Boyd, Jr.; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for those held dear by Bill Boyd as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bill Boyd.
