SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 56 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Knowledge-First Empowerment Center; and WHEREAS, The Knowledge-First Empowerment Center was established in 2001 by James H. Allen, who has been an educator for more than 30 years; he has served as a teacher and administrator in the Houston and North Forest Independent School Districts; and WHEREAS, The center has since its founding worked to prepare its students to face the challenges posed by today's complex world; its faculty and staff provide high-quality instruction and strive to instill in their students a passion for the acquisition of knowledge and the initiative to think for themselves; and WHEREAS, The center also serves the local community by offering adult literacy programs, English as a Second Language classes, and general equivalency degree instruction; it works with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to administer the Taking the Next Step summer camp program and the Job Readiness and Employment Training program; and WHEREAS, The Knowledge-First Empowerment Center has played an important role in the lives of countless students, and it is truly deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend the faculty and staff of the Knowledge-First Empowerment Center on their exemplary work and extend to them best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the center as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
